Ned Kelly was born in 1855 in Beveridge in Victoria. His brothers and sisters were Mary, Anne, Margaret, James, Dan, Kate and Grace. He was the third eldest. Ned Kelly's dads name was Red Kelly. He stole two pigs and he got put on a boat to Australia. He stole horses to get extra money for the family. He died in gaol. Ned had to raise the money for his family so they could buy food and clothes. On the way to school one day, Ned saved a child from drowning in Stringybark Creek. He was given a green a silk sash for his bravery.by the child's father. In 1869 when he 14 he was arrested for bashing up a Chinese man and he went to prison. At the age of seventeen Ned was sent to gaol for three years. This was because he was helping Harry Power who was a bushranger. In 1878 a policeman named Fitzpatrick arrested Ned's mother, for helping a murderer. Ned shot the policeman in the wrist. Ellen was put in gaol for three years. Ned thought it was sad and he thought they were picking on his famly. Ned and his brother Dan went into hiding and were joined by their friends Steve Hart and Joe Byrne. The police tried to find them. Ned and his gang found the police and shot dead three of them but the one policeman got away. Ned set out to trap the police. He and his gang held up a Glenrowan hotel and because they knew that the police would come after them by train, they damaged the tracks hoping to cause an accident where everyone on the train woud be killed. BUT someone managed to get away and tell the police. The police came and then a gun battle started and Ned got shot in the leg and was captured. Ned Kelly was hanged at the Old Melbourne goal on the 11th of November 1880. Neds famous last words were 'Such is life'.
